This guide was last updated on January 2, 2022.

This section of our site includes:

Effective January 7, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. EST, all air passengers five years of age or older will be required to test negative for COVID-19 before travelling from another country to Canada.

Documentation of a negative laboratory test result must be presented to the airline prior to boarding a flight to Canada. The test must be performed using a COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (or PCR) test and must be taken within 72 hours prior to the traveller’s scheduled departure to Canada.

Anyone who receives a negative test result and is authorized to enter Canada must still complete the full, mandatory 14-day quarantine.

As part of Canada's efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and prevent importation, all travellers are required to provide contact and quarantine information upon and after entry into Canada.  This information is crucial to Canada's response to COVID-19.  All travellers to Canada are required to submit information digitally.  This will help travellers reduce their processing time at the border and limit physical contact between travellers and government workers.

You are to use the ArriveCAN app from the Government of Canada to do this.  Download it today and start entering information.  You will be asked to show information on this app when you arrive in Canada.

Our program has set arrival dates that you must comply with.  If you attempt to arrive after these dates, you will not be able to complete all the necessary requirements once you arrive in Canada.  Please check our IMPORTANT DATES page above for our arrival dates for Quadmester 3 and Quadmester 4.

Steps for Pre-Departure, Travel and Arrival

All of these steps must be followed, or you risk serious delays or interruptions to your plans

Download Arrive CAN app

You are to download the ArriveCAN app to ensure it works and you understand all of the requirements from our federal government.  Knowledge of this app will help you plan for your departure and arrival along with your mandatory 14-day quarantine once you arrive

Contact our We Welcome the Word Centre to Schedule Your Assessment

Our welcome centres do virtual assessments of students, so this will expedite the process of getting your registered and into classes when you do arrive.

  • Have all educational documentation (transcripts, report cards, etc) ready for your assessment.

  • Email the Welcome Centre to schedule an assessment at

  • Also, let us know that you have done this so we can follow-up on our end.

Notify us when your assessment is completed

When you virtually attend your assessment with the We Welcome the World Centre, you are to email us to let us know that it is done and completed.  This will allow us to ensure that your home school can start preparing for your registration appointment and eventually get you registered in classes.

Check required dates for arrival

You will need to ensure you arrive in Canada with sufficient time to complete the mandatory 14-day quarantine, get a COVID-19 Test, get the results and then get registered for school before the start of school.  Check these dates and start planning your departure.

Develop your 14-day Quarantine Plan

The Government of Canada requires mandatory 14-day self-isolation for all individuals entering Canada, even if they do not have symptoms of COVID-19. Self-isolation means you must stay at home and monitor yourself for symptoms. Violating instructions provided to you when you entered Canada is an offence under the Quarantine Act. Such offences could result in a fine and/or imprisonment.
You are required to enter your plan in the ArriveCan app.  PDSB also requires that you complete a hard copy (paper) plan and email it to us.  Download our Support for Travelers Self-Isolation Plan below.

Isolation and Medical Check While in Home Country

Even before arriving in Canada, it is HIGHLY recommended by the Peel District School Board that you spend 14 days prior to departure in self-isolation.  We also recommend that you obtain a letter from your doctor within 72 hours of departure which confirms that you are healthy and it is safe for you to travel. You must get a PCR COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure and have the results with you when you arrive. Bring these documents with you to present when you go through immigration. Remember to bring your acceptance letter and receipt of payment as well.
